Before the Scorpius Syndrome tore through North America and nearly wiped out the population, Vivienne Wellington was the FBI’s best profiler. The bacteria got her anyway. But she survived. She recovered. And when she woke up from a drug-nightmare of c
aptivity, her skills as a hunter of men had gone from merely brilliant to full-on uncanny. Her mysterious rescuer wants her to put them to the test. But no matter how tempting he is, with his angel’s eyes and devil’s tongue, Vinnie knows she shouldn’t trust him.
If the FBI were still around they would rate Raze Shadow as one of the bad guys. His military training can’t wipe out his association with the Mercenaries, the most feared gang in a thousand miles. His loyalties are compromised. He won’t even tell Vinnie his real name. But there’s no FBI in the new America of fear and firepower, only instinct and risk.
And the way his arms wrap around Vinnie tells its own story. Whatever else Raze is concealing, he can’t hide his desire.
I really enjoyed this book as far as suspense and excitement goes but as far as the cast and their personalities mine didn't quite mesh with Viv or Raze.
That caused me a lot of going back forth re-reading sections and skipping others just out of annoyance or because they didn't make sense.
I think there is quite a bit of potential here in this story but there is a lot that is missing in detail, development and not quite thought through.
I wanted to believe in the characters and their suffering and or their training but I couldn't get into either part of that. Viv was traumatized but she doesn't really show it aside from the panic attack/nightmare she has, and gets over what she's been through almost instantly and our specially trained team really doesn't do much or notice very much despite what and who they are.
I wanted so much more. Zanetti does a lot of build up but doesn't quite follow through on all the hopes I had for the book.
Even though I struggled with this issue I still believe that Zanetti can serve up even more in the next installment.
