Silver Bastard

Silver Bastard - Joanna Wylde I received a print copy in exchange for an honest review from Berkley publishing.

I had a quite a bit of mixed feelings toward Silver Bastard, and the longer I read the more complex my feelings became. I really felt it was a decent story once I was finished with it and I liked the *bonus* which was great, but somewhere in the middle of the book Joanna began to loose me.
Puck's tough guy exterior along with his rough and tumble personality gave way along with Becca's drive and her personal growth and both of them took on different personalities. Puck didn't feel like the same hard ass he started off as in the beginning and Becca slowly but surely also began to lose that maturity and growth. Don't get me wrong they both remain strong characters that carry the story but I began to feel like I was lost in a trivial high school kind of drama. What happened to the depth and the vibe? Did Joanna just run out of steam as she wrote? I can't say but the longer I read the more difficult it was for me to believe in either of them or why they were even together. There were moments that redeemed them but I was still left with that fizzle out feeling that didn't quite make the five star marker I felt it should have achieved. I still believe in Joanna's writing because she manages to create a world that is lush and well developed and I look forward to what happens in the next installment but Silver Bastard will remain an indifferent part of the MC's journey for me.
