His to Take

Shayla Black is a wonderful writer and she always manages to create fantastic stories but His to Take turned out to not be one of her best projects. The writing wasn't horrible but the characters and the story just didn't convince me that they were genuine. It didn't really feel to me like Shayla believed in this book and it showed in the lackluster relationships and the pale storyline. I think the back stories weren't the right one's for Joaquin and Bailey. I think they had potential to be great characters but in the end neither felt right or comfortable with themselves which left me unsettled through most of it as well. I still believe in Shayla's work and hope that she finds the heart of her writing in the next book she puts out.
