Mortal Temptations
Okay... First off, I owe Allyson a REALLY big apology because she sent me this book a long time ago but I moved and things in my life got crazy so I had to track down the books she sent me so I could post the reviews since she sent them to me in exchange for a review, so Allyson I am REALLY sorry and I will get the other reviews up for Mortal Seductions and Wedding Favors up soon! Mortal Temptations is the first book in the Mortal series.
Okay so, holy crap. If I could sum Mortal Temptations in a single word it would be BRAVE. Allyson really steps out of the comfort zone box and dives right into the squirm in your seat prod at your buttons kind of testing zone. I have to hand it to Allyson because she really takes EROTICA to a whole new level in this book and she does it without any restraint. You have to respect that kind of writing because it takes a lot of talent to pull off so flawlessly and without shame. I also give her mad props because she embraces writing for both M/F and the M/M, M/F/M fans.
Be aware, the sex scenes in this book are HOT. Like blisteringly explicitly hot.
That being said, I felt the story was more or less written around its sex scenes but if you can look beyond that and open your mind and comfort level to the creativity of who and what the characters are there is so much more uniqueness to be found. (Although there is an odd scene with the feathers. Find out for yourself.)
I have never read a book like this one before.
It is really hard to find a book that stands out so much as this one did because when an author writes about gods and the like its usually along the same mythology the same type of characters or "stereotyping" but Allyson has done none of those. She has created something completely new, and completely special.
However there were a few things that I felt weren't quite.. I'm not sure if "believable" is the word for it but it certainly made me think and tested my comfort levels on more than one occasion.
It really managed to give me a whole new respect for her writing talent and her capability to create something that really stands out.
There could have been more history or mythology written in to fill out more back story for the characters but what content was already added was already overwhelming as it is so I have to admit that anymore information to take in might have blown a readers mind.
I'm half way into the second book in the series and I can tell you that its going to be just as hot as the first!
